On Monday, November 5th we held our fifth annual Community Partnership Celebration at Bravo! Italian Restaurant. This event is our major (not only) fundraiser of the year. Please take a few minutes to listen to Monica Webber describe how her involvement with Families as Allies has made a difference in the lives of her child, her family and other families they have come to know.

This work would never be possible without our many partners. Each year we honor individuals or organizations that embody our four values: valuing every child and family, excellence, partnership and accountability.

This year’s award winners were Catholic Charities’ Mental Health Care Conference, who received the HELEN REDDY JOHNSON MEMORIAL AWARD FOR VALUING EVERY CHILD AND FAMILY, The Coalition for Citizens With Disabilities’ Special Education Law Conference, who received the RUSTY TURNER MEMORIAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE,  The Community Students Learning Center, who received the PARTNERSHIP AWARD, and Congressman Gregg Harper, who received the ACCOUNTABILITY AWARD.

ACCOUNTABILITY AWARD

Gregg Harper is serving his fifth term in Congress, representing Mississippi’s Third Congressional District. He and his wife are committed to supporting families raising children with special needs. As a member of Congress, Gregg founded the Congressional Internship Program for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities. He has also worked to streamline federal programs and services
intended to be a support to youth with significant disabilities in transition from adolescence to adulthood. In 2014, Congressman Harper authored the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act that was passed into law, which redirected funding to pediatric medical research. He voted against limiting the Americans with Disabilities Act in 2018.

HELEN REDDY JOHNSON MEMORIAL AWARD
FOR VALUING EVERY CHILD AND FAMILY
The mission of Catholic Charities is to provide service to people in need, to advocate for justice in social structures, and to call the entire church and other people of good will to do the same. In May 2018 Catholic Charities very visibly translated this mission into reality through its Mental Health Conference.
