Federal law requires every state to have Medicaid beneficiary advisory council (BAC) “that is comprised of: individuals who are currently or have been Medicaid beneficiaries and individuals with direct experience supporting Medicaid beneficiaries (family members and paid or unpaid caregivers of those enrolled in Medicaid), to advise the State regarding their experience with the Medicaid program, on matters of concern related to policy development and matters related to the effective administration of the Medicaid program.”
Mississippi’s Medicaid Beneficiary Advisory Council will meet Friday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Cobb Conference Center inside the Walter Sillers Building, located at 550 High Street in downtown Jackson. The meeting is open to the public. You can attend in person and we anticipate Medicaid will provide a virtual link closer to the time of the meeting.
Medicaid’s website provides more information about the BAC and how to apply to be on it.
Federal law also requires each state to have a Medicaid Advisory Committee (MAC) to advise the director of the state Medicaid Authority. The committee includes:
A. State or local consumer advocacy groups or other community-based organizations;
B. Clinical providers (primary, specialty, long-term care);
C. As applicable, participating Medicaid managed care organizations, prepaid inpatient health plans, prepaid ambulatory health plans, primary care case management entities (PCCMs), or a health plan association;
D. Sister state agencies (e.g., foster care, public health, social services agency that determines eligibility); and
E. A percentage of BAC members.
Mississippi’s Medicaid Advisory Committee will meet on Friday, July 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Cobb Conference Center inside the Walter Sillers Building, located at 550 High Street in downtown Jackson. The meeting is open to the public. You can attend in person, and we anticipate Medicaid will provide a virtual link closer to the meeting’s time.
If you attend either meeting in person, you can park in the garage next to the Sillers building and in the lot across the street.
If you have questions about the meeting or the council, contact Shelby Berryman (Phone: 601-359-9115 Email: Shelby.Berryman@medicaid.ms.gov). Joy Hogge (jhogge@faams.org or 601-355-0915), executive director of Families as Allies, is a member of both the BAC and MAC. If you would like to give her any feedback, she is learning about these groups, too, so we can all learn together.
