Celebrate Parent-Peer Support Graduates on May 16 at 1 p.m.

Please join us in honoring the most recent class of parent-peer supporters at our virtual graduation celebration this Friday, May 16, from 1 to 1:30 p.m. The number of parent-peer supporters in the state is steadily growing. They are an enthusiastic group working in a variety of settings. Please celebrate with and get to know our newest graduates!

We invite our state agency partners, mental health and other system providers, MAP Team coordinators, current parent-peer supporters and anyone interested in parent-peer support to attend graduation. This event is an excellent way to learn more about parent-peer support and how parent-peer support helps the system of care for children. MAP Team coordinators: We encourage you to attend and help us strengthen the partnership between MAP Teams and parent peer support.

We thank the Mississippi Department of Mental Health for its financial and programmatic support for this training and parent-peer support in general. It is also exciting to see parent-peer support growing across systems. We appreciate the State Public Defender’s Office inviting us to its recent training for family and youth defenders so we could share about MAP teams, parent peer support and other ways to support families and help children stay in their homes.

We encourage any parent interested in parent-peer support to consider future training. You can learn more about what the virtual training covers and who is qualified to take it in this brochure.

We offer a special ‘thank you’ to all the mental health providers implementing parent-peer support in their agencies. Families as Allies is here for you, too! We can support you with recruitment training, supervision and programmatic needs and issues. You can call us any time, and we can provide more in-depth technical assistance. We have recently developed and implemented individualized training for specific mental health provider agencies in response to their requests.

We encourage anyone who works with parent-peer supporters to reach out to us and let us know how we can help you with parent-peer support.
