Special Needs Symposium


Join us for our 2017 Special Needs Symposium, taking place on Thursday, February 9th, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Hosted by New Summit School, this is a night of connection and encouragement for parents of young children with special needs. It will feature community organizations that support special needs families and will include several local speakers bringing positive messages of hope and perseverance.

Dinner will be included. The key note speaker is Grant Callen, Founder/President of Empowering Mississippi and a parent speaking from her heart with positive messages of hope and perseverance. We will feature community organizations such as: New Summit School, Mississippi Dyslexia CentersFamilies First For Mississippi, Beyond Therapy for Kids, Magnolia Speech School, Mark Yeager (TEAAM), Mississippi's Toughest Kids FoundationSoccer Shots Jackson MetroCanopy Children's SolutionsA Focused Brain, LLC, Laskin Therapy Group, Caring Hands, The Arc of MississippiCentral Mississippi Down Syndrome Society, along with others that support students with learning differences. The symposium will cover all resources for disabilities, including: ADHD, autism, dyslexia, developmental delays, auditory processing, speech, language, and many more.

Bring Your IEP Day


Come to the Families as Allies office on Tuesday, July 24th with your IEP and your questions. Drop in anytime between 7:30 AM and 6 PM. You'll be able to visit with parents who have been in your shoes, and we will support you in finding answers.


You will also have the opportunity to share feedback about ways to make JPS work better for all students and families if you would like. The feedback will be shared with the Better Together Commission.

Families as Allies is funded through generous donations, training fees, grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Heath Services Administration, the City of Jackson and the Department of Mental Health, and contracts with other non-profits and agencies.
