Reminder: Medicaid Meetings and Paid Family Caregiving

  • Post category:Action Alert
Last week, we shared with you that Mississippi’s Medicaid Beneficiary Advisory Council (MBAC) will meet on Friday, January 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the Cobb Conference Center located inside the Walter Sillers Building at 550 High Street in downtown Jackson. A public link will be posted on the day of the meeting on the Division of Medicaid website.

In the posted notice, the division described MBAC this way: “The purpose of the Mississippi Medicaid Beneficiary Advisory Council (MBAC) is to advise the Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) Executive Director with recommendations that will enhance the experience of Medicaid members and facilitate access to high-quality medical care delivered in a cost-effective manner.”

At the last MBAC, the Council suggested Paid Family Caregiving as an agenda item for this meeting. Families as Allies is on record as urging the Division to partner with all relevant stakeholders, especially the families of waiver participants, to explore feasible and accountable models for paying legally responsible persons to provide certain services. We look forward to this discussion. These resources provide more information about paid family caregiving:

Mississippi’s Medicaid Advisory Committee (MAC) will also meet that same day at 2 p.m., also in the Cobb Conference Center. The Mississippi Medicaid Advisory Committee is required by federal regulation to advise the Division of Medicaid about health and medical care services. The meetings are open to the public and can be attended in person or virtually. A public link will be posted on the day of the meeting on the Division of Medicaid website.
Agendas for the two meetings have not yet been published.

You can check Medicaid’s section of the state’s public meeting notices website to see if they have posted the virtual link to the MAC there. They may also post it on this page of Medicaid’s website. Here is more information about the BAC and how to apply to be a council member.
