SUMMARY:Strategies to Prevent and Treat Adolescent Substance Use
DESCRIPTION:John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health \nApproximately 1 in 5 youth ages 12-17 are participating in substance use\, including alcohol\, tobacco\, and cigarettes\, and illicit drugs. \nYouth and adolescents who use substances are at risk of using as adults\, and to limit this risk it is important to not only connect those currently using with helpful resources but also to prevent use before it begins. It is a challenge to identify youth who are struggling\, and once identified\, the wait to receive care is often prohibitive to timely treatment. \nPotential options for increasing screening and access to treatment include creating systems within primary care settings (90% of youth receive primary care)\, including school systems in screening and treatment\, and stand-alone digital interventions. Join Dr. Uche Aneni as she discusses some of the most pressing issues in the youth substance use space and opportunities to treat and prevent use. \nThis event will be virtual. \n\n\nABOUT\nKammarauche Aneni\n\n\n\n\nDr. Kammarauche Aneni is an Assistant Professor of Child Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Aneni received her MBBS from the University of Ibadan College of Medicine\, Followed by her MHS from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She later became the Chief Resident at Duke University Hospital and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellow at Yale School of Medicine. \nDr. Aneni has received serval awards\, including the NIDA HEAL Diversity Supplement from the National Institute on Drug Abuse\, the YCCI Scholar Award from Yale Center for Clinical Investigation\, the NIDA CTBH Pilot Award from the Center for Technology and Behavioral Health\, as well as the NIH AIM-AHEAD Fellowship Program in Leadership from the NIH. \nRegister here>>
