SUMMARY:Ending Punitive School Discipline and Pivoting to Positive Initiatives
DESCRIPTION:The National Juvenile Justice Network \nDid you know that many schools throughout the country are restraining and secluding children? \nRestraint and seclusion are dangerous practices disproportionately inflicted on Black and Brown and disabled children as well as children with a history of trauma. Physical Restraint\, which immobilizes or reduces the ability of a student to move their torso\, arms\, legs or head freely\, and seclusion\, which involuntarily confines a student alone in a room or area\, exacerbate youth trauma. At a time when children are experiencing even greater increases in trauma and mental health challenges\, it is imperative schools rethink their use of these practices. \nJoin us for a webinar to discuss why it is urgent that we stop further traumatizing and criminalizing children and focus on positive school discipline approaches. \nRegister here >>
